The Yoga Teacher – Review

My sister likes to send me books occasionally and I love receiving them! She sent me The Yoga Teacher over a year ago and I finally got to reading it recently! I started reading The Yoga Teacher right around the time I started my month of hot yoga. Ironically, the book had poses at the beginning of each chapter that I was performing In the hot yoga classes! I loved acting on the poses I read about in the books, I felt that I was closer to the characters in the book.

The Yoga Teacher is about a woman in pharmaceuticals who really wants to be a yoga teacher. She leaves her boyfriend after finding out he was cheating on her and goes to a yoga retreat to become a certified yoga teacher. Her dream is to have an organization for children to practice healthy lifestyles, particularly yoga, for free. I won’t give away anything else within the book.

The book was good. I felt really close to the main character because I too left an industry that I was not meant for, and found my calling in the health and fitness industry. Leaving hospitality for me, was the best thing that I have ever done for myself, just as she leaving her medical sales position was the greatest thing that she could have done for herself.

Determining what your calling is, is one of the hardest things to do. I prayed for so long about what I should do with my life. I knew that hospitality was not for me. I also knew that I loved to workout, but I had never thought of it as a career opportunity. Not until I committed to making fitness my career did I find happiness.

Happiness is a choice. I believe that is one of the greatest messages that I found in The Yoga Teacher. It has also been my motto for a very long time, so that might be why I read that through the pages of the book. The main character wants to find happiness and help other people find happiness. Just like me.

I think anyone who is looking for their calling should read this book. I actually borrowed it to one of my clients who is in a position between what she has to do to live and what she truly wants to do. She has a dream of bringing fitness to children as well, so I hope this book speaks to her. I will keep you updated if anything comes of her reading The Yoga Teacher.
